As members of Congress are back at work in Washington, D.C., we hope they will make addressing the climate crisis a top priority. If the Republicans who lead House and Senate committees refuse to hold hearings, we know we can count on Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson to keep climate change and its impacts front and center. She recently hosted a series of roundtables discussing the national security implications of climate change and the need to address these problems.
In her opening statements, Johnson highlighted how the devastating impacts of climate change, such as flooding and rising temperatures, could hinder our military operations. Acknowledging climate security as national security is a crucial step toward climate action.
We truly appreciate Johnson for speaking up about the urgent need to combat climate change.
